The version of Python that we are using in the lab is 2.4. If you want to install Python on your own computer, you'll be likely to run into problems with class work if you make sure you install a 2.4.x version.
Python is readily available for most of the popular operating
systems, and the available distributions include IDLE. You can find
most of what you want on the main Python web site's "download" page,
at http://www.python.org/download/.
Again, be sure you grab the most recent version 2.4.
Python for Mac OS X is maintained elsewhere, and the primary site
has changed recently. Provided you have Mac OS X.3 or later
(Panther or Tiger), you can download a well-behaved MacPython
2.4 from http://undefined.org/python/.
Note the instructions there:
If you are running an earlier version of Mac OS, talk with me. I can help you find Python for it, but you may have to settle for a slightly older version.
I'll try to add information here about which extensions/modules you'll need to add to your Python installation when we start to use some.
