Information about the Computer Science program

The computer science program (offered by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science) is committed to educating undergraduates in the science of computation within the context of a broader liberal arts education. We are consciously not a computer engineering program, not an information technology program, and not a vocational software development program. Although we continually improve our curriculum to remain current, we promote core concepts of the field rather than the trends of the day. Our program is designed to prepare students well for careers in software development, but also to prepare students well for non-traditional career paths that use computer science, for graduate school in computer science or computational aspects of natural science, and for life as a whole. See the program website for more information, especially

Information about the open position

We are seeking someone who can work with a small team (joining two other faculty members) to develop the program. We seek a colleague who can not only teach courses and do research but also contribute to the program's curricular development, to recruiting, and to interacting with the many off-campus partners who desire our students for internships and full-time positions. Generally, we want someone who will join us in promoting the program and, especially, the students.

Candidates with backgrounds in any field of computer science will be considered, although we are particularly interested in candidates who can teach a project-based software development course that plays a crucial, formative role in our major program's sophomore year. There is also great interest in computational science across the natural science division, so those with a background in high performance computing will find eager collaborators here.
